Texas Girl Makes Sea Glass Jewelry and Donates Money to Hurricane Victims

A 10-year-old girl originally from Texas has stepped up to help hurricane victims with the use of jewelry and sea glass.

Savannah Rayne Wells and her family moved from the Houston, Texas area earlier in 2017 to Ventura, California. She and her family watched on television as their friends and families homes were decimated. After Wells saw how Hurricane Harvey was hitting her friend’s homes and even her old neighborhood, she knew she had to do something to help.

“My old neighborhood has been on national TV,” Savannah told ABC7. “And they’re literally flooded and some of my childhood friends have lost everything.”

Savannah goes down by the water and collects any sea glass she sees laying around. The glass gets tossed around for anywhere from five to 50 years, and the tossing causes the sharp edges to soften out. With the glass, she makes jewelry by hand. Savannah has decided to sell the jewelry and donates the money she makes to the victims of Hurricane Harvey. To top that off, her hometown church has promised to match any of the money she makes.

As of early September 2017, Savannah had raised about $1,200. She’s currently still accepting monetary donations and selling her pieces. She is also asking people to donate their own sea glass that she will take and make into the jewelry to sell.

Savannah’s family has helped her to create her own website where customers can buy her pieces. On the site, visitors can purchase pieces such as earrings and necklaces. Visitors can also donate money directly on the site and find out where to send their personal sea glass.

All of the money and donations Savannah collects are being sent to Bayou City Fellowship Harvey Relief Fund. The relief fund was started by the Wells’ family church that they attended.
