President Jimmy Carter, Garth Brooks, and Trisha Yearwood Team Up to Build Houses in Tennessee

800px-Jimmy_CarterWhile the commercial real estate sector is typically split between larger buildings valued over $2.5 million and smaller buildings such as strip malls and stand-alone convenience stores, residential real estate is quite smaller in comparison.

Even still, some organizations need help building homes for homeless individuals. It just happens that this help comes this week in the form of a former president and two country music superstars.

President Jimmy Carter has always held Habitat for Humanity close to his heart, and even at 90 years old, he’s not planning on slowing down anytime soon. Carter and his wife Rosalynn, 89, are joined by singers Garth Brooks and Trisha Yearwood this week in Memphis, Tennessee to rebuild homes during Habitat’s 33rd annual Jimmy & Rosalynn Carter Work Project.

The volunteers are set to build 19 houses, complete 10 neighborhood beautification projects, and install six aging in place homes to enhance accessibility for senior residents.

President Carter welcomed the volunteers by saying, “Rosalynn and I are thrilled to lend our hands in Memphis this week, and we look forward to working with Habitat homeowners and volunteers. Their dedication continues to inspire and motivate us each year. Decent shelter is something we all need to thrive. With the help of volunteers we will create strong, stable homes and communities,” Look to the Stars reports.

In the 33 year tenure of the Carter Work Project, the organization has amassed over 92,000 volunteers and built 5,000 homes across the nation. The former president and first lady have traveled all over the U.S. and the world working to provide shelter to those in need.

This project in Memphis is particularly special for President Carter as it comes just a year after he was diagnosed with brain cancer. His radiation therapy and immunotherapy treatments were proven so successful that he was taken off them in March.
