Christian Author Shines the Light on Differences Between Islam and Christianity

When people go to the beach, nearly half — or about 48% — like to spend their time reading. It’s not every day, however, that these literary lovers enjoy a book written by a Muslim-turned-Christian woman.

Nahid Darwish, author of Wholly Different: Why I Choose Biblical Values Over Islamic Values, was born in Cairo, Egypt, and raised as a devout Muslim for years. Despite her Muslim upbringing, she accepted Christ into her life 20 years ago and is now trying to teach Americans about the differences between Islam and Christianity.

“It’s not because Muslim people are bad or good, it’s very important that the West understand that,” Darwish said. “We are taking about an ideology, not people.”

Darwish added that the mainstream media has contributed to the confusion and “muddied the water” on how the U.S. views Muslim nations.

“Ideology is everything,” added Darwish. “It defines the culture that we live in, the standards by which we live, and Islamic values are the measurement of what good behavior is in the Muslim world.”

According to The Christian Post, Darwish believes that U.S. citizens are torn between how they feel about Muslim nations, terrorism threats, and the media in general.

Despite the polarizing international affairs that the U.S. has been involved with in recent decades, The Salt Lake Tribune reports that Muslims are actually viewed more favorably in America nowadays than they were just a few years ago.

In fact, heated rhetoric from the campaign trail may be shifting public opinion in surprising ways.

“The more [President] Donald Trump speaks against Muslims, the more people’s attitudes are shifting in favor of Muslims, at least among the Democrats and independents,” said Imam Shuaib-ud Din, of the Utah Islamic Center in Sandy, Utah. “He is doing us a favor. I think God is playing his trump card.”

Darwish’s book, which came out in late February, uses each chapter to showcase a specific aspect about both the Bible and Christianity and how it contrasts with the Quran and Islam.

“I see Christianity in everything,” she added “I see the biblical values in everything.”
