Arizona Elementary School Teacher (Who Works 3 Other Jobs) Gifted a New AC Unit

In Arizona, the six-month period from October through March is dubbed “the cold season.” For those on the East Coast, a period of time where the average temperature is 52.6 degrees Fahrenheit, it’s nearly impossible to consider that a “cold season.”

This year’s Arizona cold season set a record, though, as the warmest cold season of all time. According to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s Beyond the Data, over the past 50 years, Arizona’s cold season has warmed by 3.5 degrees.

No matter what time of year it is, though, in Arizona, having quality air conditioning is a must for homeowners. Across the United States, approximately two-thirds of all homes have AC units. Unfortunately, not everyone Arizonian is able to have a high-quality AC unit cooling their home year-round.

Thankfully, sometimes the most deserving people actually get what they deserve. According to AZ Central, an elementary-school teacher and single mother of three daughters who works three other jobs was recently awarded a brand-new air conditioning unit.

“I found out a couple weeks ago that my air conditioner was on its last legs and it would not survive the summer,” said Cindi Morton, a science teacher for Herrera Elementary School in Phoenix.

Morton reached out to her community’s Facebook group and asked for help after hearing about a contest to win a free AC unit.

“It’s very rare for me to nominate myself for anything because I am always looking for ways to put other people into better situations,” Morton added.

Her friends nominated her, mainly because of the hard work she puts into her teaching career, as well as being a math and biology tutor, a respite caretaker for families with emotionally disabled children, and, if that doesn’t sound like it’s enough, a driver for Lyft.

“Cindi was the most deserving,” Said Kirk Croffoot, owner of Croffoot Heating and Air Conditioning of Chandler, which donated the AC unit for giveaway. “It broke my heart to have a single mom who raised three kids to have to work three jobs and pick up a fourth one.”
