MEDIA SEMINARS 2017 Global Media Summit | Together We Push Back the Darkness 29 MEDIA SEMINAR FACULTY RADIO TRACK Coordinator: CAROL SWAIN, professor of political science and law at Vanderbilt University, is an award-winning author and a widely recognized expert on race relations, immigration and evangelical politics. Her op-eds have appeared in national newspapers like The New York Times and The Washington Post. She is the founding director of the Carol Swain Foundation and has served on the advisory board of the National Endowment for the Humanities. YVONNE CARLSON holds a bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Colorado Christian University and completed graduate work in Information Communications and Technology at the University of Denver. She is an IEEE member, and has participated as a member of the National Religious Broadcasters (NRB) Internet Committee where she helped produce the Digital Media Summit. She has also served on the technical advisory board for the Denver Center of Performing Arts. Since 2015, Yvonne functioned as the Director of Client Engagement for Pursuant, a technology enabled fundraising agency based in Dallas. Currently, she is the Director of Special Projects for First Baptist Dallas and oversees growth projects in the areas of communications, broadcasting, and media. She is also the director of the church’s online or iCampus. SUE DETWEILER is a wife, mother of six, author, and pastor with more than 25 years of experience in marriage, ministry, and education. She is also a popular speaker who shares her heart and wisdom internationally on issues related to marriage, family, women, prayer, leadership, and ministry. Sue’s first book, 9 Traits of a Life- Giving Mom, hit No. 1 on Amazon’s hot new releases for Christian women’s issues. Her newest book, 9 Traits of a Life-Giving Marriage, grew out of her and her husband’s heart to help couples grow closer to God and to each other. In their pastoral ministry to marriages, they have seen how sharing their own struggles can help create a safe context for couples to be transparent and honest with their own issues. JENNIFER EPPERSON, ED.D.’S passion is helping others in Christian media reach their potential. Currently, she serves as Moody Radio’s Director of Research and Learning and is on the National Religious Broadcasters’ Radio Committee, leading its education efforts. Jennifer has worked and taught in international contexts with Moody Radio’s Global Partners Training program and spent 5 years as the executive producer of TWR’s Women of Hope. Jennifer is married to Jack (a radio engineer), and enjoys playing the flute, and speaking French. RON HARRIS began his broadcast career in 1966, and has worked professionally in radio, television, and church media, and has served as a professor of communications at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary and Dallas Baptist University. He served as general manager of KCBI Radio in Dallas for almost 15 years. Dr. Harris has been a member of the National Religious Broadcasters since 1981, serving on the Board of Directors, the Executive Committee, and was elected Chairman for three years in a row. JONITA “JONA” KUMARAKU is the co-founder and Network Program Director for Media 7 in Albania & Kosovo. Media 7 owns the largest Christian Radio Network (7 radio stations) in Western Balkan and broadcasts in four languages in the countries of Albania, Kosovo, Montenegro, Macedonia and Greece. Jonida is the General Manager of Radio 7 producing high quality radio programs at 7 stations. Media 7 launched TV 7 in October 2016 the only Christian Television Station in Albanian language, reaching with the Gospel 7 million Albanians in Europe. WENDY TORRES, BCBC is a Board Certified Biblical Counselor with years of experience as a Marriage and Family Counselor who maintains a private practice in Grand Prairie, Texas working with a broad spectrum of clients. In addition to being a prominent relationship counselor, Wendy Torres also hosts a daily radio show on local radio stations in Dallas and Denver and has been actively involved in ministry work for more than 23 years. She has been featured as a column writer for Manna Express and Heart and Soul Magazine and has been recognized by The international Who’s Who among Professional and Business Women as one who sets the standard to excel, inspire and motivate! In addition, she has been a distinguished recipient of the 2014 REVIVE Award as an Honoree and recognized for her contribution to people’s emotional well-being.
